Alluxio Names Steven Mih as Chief Executive Officer
March 28, 2019
Mih brings two decades of experience in cloud, enterprise software and open source to Alluxio's leadership team; founding CEO Haoyuan Li named chairman and Chief Technology Officer
SAN MATEO, Calif., March 28, 2019 -- Alluxio, developer of the world's first software system that unifies data for multi-cloud environments, today announced the appointment of Steven Mih as CEO. Mih succeeds founding CEO Haoyuan Li (HY), creator of the original Alluxio technology, who will now serve as CTO and Chairman of the Board. With Mih joining the company as CEO, Bob Wiederhold who joined Alluxio as executive chairman and board member last year transitions to being an independent board member.
Alluxio software is being deployed by seven out of the top ten internet companies in the world and many leading companies in various sectors. Alluxio announced the close of a Series B financing round earlier this year and recently released Alluxio 2.0, the largest open source release since the inception of the project. Together with Mih’s onboarding, Alluxio doubles down on its investments in open source, sales, and marketing to scale the business globally.
“I am thrilled to welcome Steven to Alluxio. Steven is an industry veteran with extensive go-to-market experience, and he is passionate about our vision. I’m confident that he is the right CEO and I’m very excited to work with him to take Alluxio to the next stage,” Li said. “I also look forward to spending more time on areas that I am deeply passionate about such as furthering the technology and product vision as well as working closely with users.”
Mih joins Alluxio from Aviatrix, a software-defined cloud networking startup, where he served as CEO for three years. At Aviatrix, he grew the company into one of the fastest-growing partners of Amazon Web Services and other cloud providers. Previously he led worldwide sales at NoSQL leader Couchbase. He also led worldwide field operations at Mesosphere and ran worldwide sales at Transitive.
“I am passionate about and strongly believe in Alluxio’s vision of the future of data, and its mission to deliver solutions to help its customers run their ML, AI and analytics workloads on any cloud, particularly as enterprises move towards hybrid & multi-cloud deployments with new storage technologies like object stores,” Mih said. “Alluxio has a unique opportunity to accelerate and dramatically simplify the complex transition to cloud environments for data-driven apps. I’m excited to work with Haoyuan, the great team at Alluxio, and the strong, growing community of Alluxio users worldwide.”

Alluxio, supplier of open source virtual distributed file systems, announced Alluxio Enterprise AI 3.6. This delivers capabilities for model distribution, model training checkpoint writing optimization, and enhanced multi-tenancy support. It can, we’re told, accelerate AI model deployment cycles, reduce training time, and ensure data access across cloud environments. The new release uses Alluxio Distributed Cache to accelerate model distribution workloads; by placing the cache in each region, model files need only be copied from the Model Repository to the Alluxio Distributed Cache once per region rather than once per server.
