At AWS Summit New York, Alluxio, Inc. announced the availability of Alluxio 2.0 with innovations for data engineers managing and deploying analytical and AI workloads in the cloud, particularly for hybrid and multi-cloud environments.

Alluxio, based on the original AMPLab Tachyon project, wants you to use its in-memory file system construct for fast data access, sharing of data between compute frameworks, and intelligent negotiation of data movement between clouds. Its new policy-driven data orchestration, and its AWS and Starburst Presto integrations, sweeten the deal.

Alluxio has launched Alluxio 2.0, a platform designed for data engineers who manage and deploy analytical and AI workloads in the cloud. According to Alluxio, the 2.0 version was built particularly with hybrid and multi-cloud environments in mind, with the aim of providing data orchestration to bring data locality, accessibility and elasticity to compute.

Alluxio is a well-known name among the world’s top internet companies. In fact, 7 out of the top 10 internet companies use open-source data orchestration technology developed by Alluxio. The launch of Alluxio 2.0 at the recent AWS Summit in New York announces a lot more power in it.

The rise of compute-intensive workloads and the adoption of the cloud has driven organizations to adopt a decoupled architecture for modern workloads — one in which compute scales independently from storage. While this enables scaling elasticity, it introduces new data engineering problems — this is where an abstraction layer is needed. Just as compute and containers need Kubernetes, with data silos only increasing, data also needs orchestration — a tier, one that brings data locality, data accessibility and data elasticity to compute across data silos, zones, regions and even clouds.

With Alluxio, big data apps access the stores in a single way instead of traversing unique access routes to every storage silo. This speeds up access of big data apps to multiple data silos.

Alluxio Inc., developer of a virtual distributed file system aimed specifically at data science and analytics workloads, today released what it says is the most significant enhancement to its platform since its initial release more than three years ago.
