Alluxio has updated its data orchestration to simplify and accelerate how firms work with distributed data-intensive workloads. Alluxio 2.0 provides a novel layer of technology to separate compute from storage and automates data ‘tiering’ across on-prem and cloud.

As the 2.0 release was rolled out in July, Dipti Borkar, VP, product management and marketing at Alluxio, reflected on the data engineering problems that have emerged as a result of the increasingly decoupled architecture for modern workloads.

The answer for many technologists it to look to data orchestration technologies. These are platforms built to collect, configure, coordinate, conjoin and manage the silos of data that exist around any given enterprise.

Cloud has changed the dynamics of data engineering as well as the behavior of data engineers in many ways. This is primarily because a data engineer on-premise only dealt with databases and some parts of the Hadoop stack.
